Laboratory of Neural Circuits & Behavior: Electrophysiology

Shiyong Huang, Ph.D., Investigator

Research

The research in the lab focuses on elucidating the genetic etiology of autism using mouse models.  We employ a combination of cutting-edge approaches, including two-photon imaging, in vivo and ex vivo electrophysiology, optogenetics, behavior assessment and neural computation. Many genes are implicated in the etiology of autism behaviors in humans. How these genetic mutations contribute to autism behaviors remains largely unexplored. Here, we will examine neural connectivity within genetically-defined circuits using autism mouse models. We will further establish the causal link between the alteration of neural circuits and autism behaviors. Through manipulating neural connectivity, we will develop potential therapeutic interventions for autism behaviors in mice.
